On Monday’s "CNN Newsroom," House Foreign Affairs Committee Ranking Member Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) stated that President Joe Biden is beginning to indicate he will disclose who he believes is responsible for impeding a ceasefire. Meeks suggested that both Hamas and Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu might bear some responsibility.
Meeks explained that the President has been using strong language with Netanyahu privately, some of which remains classified. He noted that Secretary of State Antony Blinken has mentioned that if progress isn’t made soon, Biden and Blinken will start naming those at fault on both sides. Meeks interpreted this as a sign of Biden’s growing frustration and a shift from behind-the-scenes negotiations to public accountability.
Meeks emphasized the need to address the threat posed by Hamas to Americans, Israelis, and Palestinians, and asserted that Hamas should not be in a position to govern Gaza as part of the ongoing negotiations.
Meeks concluded, "I believe we’re approaching a point where the President will be able to speak more openly about the current situation and identify who is obstructing an agreement, regardless of which side it is. I can’t provide more details based on my briefing, but I think it’s important to make all that information available
