"Israel Conducts Extensive Strikes on Syrian Heavy Weaponry and Chemical Arms"

The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has intensified its o
perations over Syria, launching hundreds of sorties with free reign over Syrian airspace to neutralize potential threats left behind by the retreating Syrian army. Reports suggest that Israel is systematically targeting air defense systems that could hinder its ability to strike Iran’s nuclear facilities in the future.

According to Reuters (via the Jerusalem Post), Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the military’s objective is to "destroy heavy strategic weapons across Syria, including surface-to-air missiles, air defense systems, surface-to-surface missiles, cruise missiles, long-range rockets, and coastal missiles."

A senior Israeli official confirmed that the airstrikes would continue in the coming days. Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar emphasized that Israel’s actions are solely focused on defending its citizens, not interfering in Syria’s internal affairs.

We target strategic weapons systems, such as remaining chemical weapons and long-range missiles, to prevent them from falling into the hands of extremists,” Sa’ar told reporters in Jerusalem.

There have been suggestions that Israel might transfer some Syrian weapons to Kurdish forces, who face aggression from Syrian rebels and Turkish forces near Syria’s northern border. Israel has voiced concern for the Kurds and is exploring ways to protect vulnerable minority groups, including Druze and Christian communities.

Israeli government spokesman David Mencer confirmed discussions with the U.S. about safeguarding the Kurds, noting their pivotal role in the fight against ISIS and their potential as a stabilizing force after the Assad regime's fall. Mencer acknowledged Israel’s realistic view of Syria’s future leadership but expressed hope for shared regional stability. If not, he stressed, Israel remains ready to defend itself.

Meanwhile, the conflict continues to spread. A Houthi-fired drone from Yemen struck an apartment building in Yavneh, Israel, causing property damage but no injuries. An Israeli jet attempted to intercept the drone but arrived too late.

Additionally, in southern Lebanon, four Israeli reservists lost their lives when a seized Hezbollah weapons stockpile accidentally detonated during an operation. An investigation into the incident is underway.
