CNN's Jennings Describes Walz as Kamala's ‘Emotional Support Animal,’ Claims It Reflects a ‘Lack of Confidence

On Tuesday, during a segment on CNN’s “Newsnight,” political analyst Scott Jennings questioned why Democratic vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz was accompanying Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris .

Jennings suggested that Walz's presence seemed unnecessary, referring to him as Harris's "emotional support animal."

Here is a partial transcript of the segment:

LAURA LEADER: There isn’t much else to focus on at the moment. And, as Bakari mentioned, they’ve really embraced new ways of reaching young people. At the convention, they involved about 150 social media creators, which is significant because young people aren’t watching cable TV as much. They’re very effective at connecting with young people through social media, much like how Obama’s campaign was the first to leverage the internet.

BAKARI SELLERS: You explained that better than I did.

LEADER: I think so too.

SCOTT JENNINGS: This isn’t about her ability to engage with content creators or even do interviews with people like Paul Finebaum. It’s about her ability to answer tough questions. I’m sorry, but bringing in TikTokers isn’t exactly going to challenge her —

SELLERS: That kind of condescension isn’t helpful for the campaign.

JENNINGS: What campaign?

LEADER: I’m just pointing out that the media landscape is changing.

JENNINGS: The fact is, she hasn’t answered any tough questions yet. Now that they’ve finally decided to take some on, she has to bring along what seems like an emotional support animal.

LEADER: Well, you know what, whatever works —

JENNINGS: It just shows a lack of confidence.

LEADER: And it’s working for her.
