During a human trafficking operation at Comic-Con, 14 individuals were arrested for soliciting sex, and 10 victims were rescued

Fourteen individuals were arrested and 10 victims rescued in a human sex trafficking sting at San Diego Comic-Con. The San Diego Human Trafficking Task Force carried out a three-day operation leading up to the weekend event, as announced by California Attorney General Rob Bonta on Tuesday. Among those rescued was a 16-year-old girl.

'Sex traffickers often exploit large events like Comic-Con to profit from their victims,' Bonta stated. 'These arrests serve as a clear warning to potential offenders that their criminal actions will not be tolerated.

Officers conducted the operation undercover, posing as sex buyers to identify and apprehend traffickers and locate potential victims, according to the Attorney General's office. Additionally, undercover officers placed ads soliciting sex as part of the investigation

"The comic book and pop culture event, which ended on Sunday, is held each summer at the San Diego Convention Center and attracts over 100,000 attendees.

'When individuals exploit such events to prey on minors, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and our law enforcement partners will track them down and ensure they face criminal charges,' said Christopher Davis, Acting Special Agent in Charge for HSI San Diego. 'There is no place for alleged predators in our city.'"
