Kamala Harris Campaign Addresses Criticism, Announces Upcoming Solo Interview on Undisclosed Date

Vice President Kamala Harris is set to give a solo interview on an unspecified date, her campaign announced on Thursday. This promise comes in response to significant backlash over Minnesota Governor Tim Walz joining Harris in a prerecorded interview that aired on CNN the same day.

Critics argue that Harris agreed to appear alongside Walz to limit her speaking time during the one-hour Q&A session with CNN's Dana Bash. Concerns have also been raised that CNN might edit the pre-taped interview to eliminate any gaffes or mistakes made by Harris, given the network’s perceived bias against former President Donald Trump.

"LOL – Kamala can’t even do an edited softball CNN interview without backup,” tweeted the popular conservative X handle “catturd2.”

Communications expert Steve Guest added, "The entire interview needs to be released — unedited."

According to Politico Playbook, the Harris campaign responded to the criticism by pledging that Harris will participate in a solo interview at a later, undisclosed date:

Following criticism from several Republicans and conservative media figures who labeled Harris’s appearance with Walz as using him as a “security blanket,” the Harris-Walz campaign issued a list of joint interviews conducted by every major party presidential ticket since 2004. Additionally, a senior campaign official clarified that “obviously she will do solo interviews too” throughout the campaign.

Harris has not participated in an unscripted press conference, sit-down, or live interview focused on policy solutions for 39 days since she entered the presidential race. The last time Harris was interviewed on television was June 24, 2024, and her last solo press conference reportedly took place eight months ago, on December 2, 2023.

Since joining the race, Harris has been criticized for delivering several unscripted remarks that were perceived as confusing. She spoke vaguely about the “duality to the nature of democracy” and struggled to provide clear answers regarding her economic policies. In a brief exchange with reporters, she repeatedly used the phrase “return on investment” to justify increased taxpayer spending on what some have described as socialist-style policies. In another instance, she told a Pennsylvania football team, “You will be undefeated even if you don’t win every game.”

Harris has made numerous gaffes and confusing statements throughout her career, and there are many notable examples of these.
