On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s "Real Time," host Bill Maher criticized CNN's Chief Political Correspondent Dana Bash for not pressing Vice President Kamala Harris harder on her stance on fracking during a recent interview. Maher argued that Bash had Harris "dead to rights" by quoting her previous statements advocating for a ban on fracking, but Harris didn't acknowledge her shift in position. Maher expressed frustration, questioning why politicians, like Harris, can’t simply admit when they’ve "got it wrong.
He suggested that Harris could have easily blamed misinformation or her staff's turnover for her changing stance. Maher agreed with Puck News Founding Partner Peter Hamby that Harris could address her policy shifts more straightforwardly by explaining them as responses to what is realistically achievable in politics. Despite his criticism, Maher noted that Harris is just like any other politician, and he’s "not mad" about that.
