The Eagles have successfully completed a trade to acquire their third receiver.

The Eagles have acquired former first-round pick Jahan Dotson from the Washington Commanders in a trade. Philadelphia receives Dotson and a fifth-round pick in 2025, giving up a third-round pick and two seventh-round picks in the 2025 draft.

Dotson, 24, was drafted 16th overall in 2022 from Penn State. He has played 29 games with 26 starts over the past two seasons, amassing 35 catches for 523 yards and 7 touchdowns as a rookie, followed by 49 catches for 518 yards and 4 touchdowns in 2023.

With a new coaching staff in Washington, Dotson had become less favored, but he joins the Eagles with two years left on his contract and three years of team control. He will take on the WR3 role behind A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, filling a position that was uncertain throughout training camp.

“Yeah, really excited to get out here and see the candidates we have,” said general manager Howie Roseman before the first summer practice. “We brought in guys that we think have talent and the ability to contribute for us, but to sit here and say that’s not something we’re going to be watching every day and seeing who steps up and how the chemistry is with Jalen (Hurts), it’s important.

“You know, I think that you look at it throughout the league, that position is an important position. We brought in guys in free agency, drafted a couple of guys. I think it’s something that we’re going to be watching among other things daily and see who steps up.”

Throughout training camp, the Eagles experimented with Parris Campbell, John Ross, Johnny Wilson, and Britain Covey in the WR3 role. While all had their moments, the addition of Dotson is seen as a significant upgrade, addressing one of the few weak spots on an otherwise elite potential offense.

In Kellen Moore’s offense, the Eagles are expected to use their receivers in various roles. Smith has been working in the slot, and Dotson’s versatility, having played both outside and in the slot, fits well with this strategy.

Dotson’s NFL career stats show 537 snaps in the slot (34.4%) and 1,023 snaps wide (65.5%). At Penn State, he ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash and had an impressive senior season with 91 catches for 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Projected Eagles’ offense for 2024:

- **QB**: Jalen Hurts

- **RB**: Saquon Barkley

- **WR**: A.J. Brown

- **WR**: DeVonta Smith

- **WR**: Jahan Dotson

- **TE**: Dallas Goedert

- **LT**: Jordan Mailata

- **LG**: Landon Dickerson

- **C**: Cam Jurgens

- **RG**: Mekhi Becton

- **RT**: Lane Johnson

On paper, this lineup looks very strong. Roseman has set up the team well; now it’s up to the coaching staff and players to make it all work in 2024.
