**Secret Service Shoots Armed Man Near White House After Midnight Confrontation**
A man armed with a firearm was shot by U.S. Secret Service officers near the White House in Washington, D.C., shortly after midnight on Sunday. The incident took place near 17th and F Streets NW, according to the Secret Service. Local police had earlier flagged concerns about a potentially suicidal individual traveling to D.C. from Indiana, NPR reported. Secret Service personnel later located the suspect’s vehicle and identified a person nearby matching the description. "As officers approached, the individual brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation during which our personnel fired shots," the Secret Service stated in an announcement shared by spokesman Anthony Guglielmi. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital, though his condition remains unknown. No injuries were reported among Secret Service officers. The Metropolitan Police Department’s Internal Affairs Division is investigating the shooting as part of its standard review of officer-involved incidents in the District of Columbia. At the time of the incident, former President Donald Trump was at his Mar-a-Lago residence in Florida. The shooting occurred just one block from the White House.
