An ABC News/Ipsos poll released on Sunday indicated that Vice President Kamala Harris saw “no overall bounce in support” following her formal nomination as the Democratic presidential candidate at the Democratic National Convention
.
According to the poll, Harris’s standing in the race against former President Donald Trump remains largely unchanged from before the convention. The survey, conducted online from August 23-27 in both English and Spanish with a random national sample of 2,496 adults, showed Harris leading Trump by 50 percent to 46 percent.
Among registered likely voters, the gap widened slightly to 52 percent for Harris versus 46 percent for Trump. Additionally, the poll reveals that voters are somewhat more satisfied with the Harris-Trump matchup compared to the Biden-Trump race. The survey found that 53 percent of the public is dissatisfied with the Harris-Trump contest, compared to 71 percent dissatisfied when Biden was the presumptive nominee in July.
Gary Langer of ABC News noted that this shift reflects a higher level of support for Harris compared to Biden within the Democratic Party and among left-leaning independents.
However, Trump is favored by all adults on key issues such as the economy, inflation, immigration, and handling the Israel-Hamas conflict. Harris leads on issues like race relations, abortion, and health care. The candidates are evenly matched on crime and safety.
