Omar on Anti-ISIS Strikes in Syria: Military Involvement ‘a Detriment,’ Not Necessary

On CNN’s *The Source* on Monday, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) discussed recent U.S. military strikes on ISIS targets in Syria. She expressed concern for the future of the Syrian people and emphasized the need for international support in rebuilding democratic institutions and infrastructure. Omar stated, “I don’t believe it is necessary for us to, militarily, be involved. I think that is a detriment to any progress that they are seeking.” She highlighted the resilience and determination of the Syrian people to shape their own future, advocating for external guidance and support rather than direct military involvement by the United States.

Collins followed up, saying, “Okay, so it sounds like you disapprove — you don’t approve of the Biden administration’s strikes in Syria.” Omar did not provide a clear response to this statement. Collins then shifted the conversation to immigration.
