Sanders began by reflecting on public perceptions of President Joe Biden’s handling of Trump’s return to the political stage. “There were a lot of people who thought President Biden didn’t fully grasp the gravity of the moment when he welcomed President-elect Trump to the White House,” she said. “Photos were released showing them smiling together, not only in the Oval Office but even posing outside. Many asked, ‘How could Biden call Trump a threat to democracy and then offer him such a warm reception? Was all the rhetoric from Democrats just for show?’”
Sanders defended Biden’s leadership, emphasizing his long-standing message. “The legacy President Biden leaves is rooted in what he told me back in 2019 — the battle for the soul of this nation. His recent Oval Office address and his interview with Lawrence O’Donnell reaffirm that he understands the stakes, and he wants Americans to grasp the seriousness of this moment, too.”
She highlighted Biden’s realistic tone, noting, “He’s not exiting the stage with rosy optimism or just listing his achievements. He’s warning us — if we don’t stay vigilant, if we don’t act, as Michelle Obama put it, this country could become something we do not recognize.”
