Fraternal Order of Police Backs Donald Trump for President

The National Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), the nation's oldest and largest police labor organization, announced on Friday its endorsement of Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his vice presidential pick, Senator JD Vance (R-OH), for the upcoming presidential election.

Patrick Yoes, National President of the FOP, stated that the decision to endorse Trump followed a thorough evaluation of both Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.

“Public safety and border security will be critical issues in the final months of this campaign,” Yoes said. “Our members carefully considered the candidates’ positions on these issues, and there was no doubt—zero doubt—as to who they want as our President for the next four years: Donald J. Trump.”

Yoes highlighted Trump’s support for law enforcement during the 2020 George Floyd protests and his stance on border security as key factors in the decision.

“During his first term, President Trump clearly supported law enforcement and border security,” Yoes remarked. “In the summer of 2020, he stood with us when few others did. With his help, we successfully pushed back against the 'defund the police' movement, and we are now seeing a reduction in crime rates. To maintain these lower crime rates, we need to re-elect Donald Trump.”

Yoes noted that the FOP reviewed Trump’s responses to a detailed questionnaire and considered a letter from the Harris-Walz campaign on criminal justice and police labor issues. A meeting with Trump was held, but the Harris-Walz campaign did not agree to a similar meeting.

More than 377,000 FOP members received information to help them make an informed decision.

“As the nation’s oldest and largest law enforcement labor organization, the FOP’s presidential endorsement is highly sought after by candidates,” Yoes said. “We have a responsibility to our members, the 700,000 sworn law enforcement officers in the U.S., and the communities they serve to guide the future direction of our country.”

Yoes also pointed out that the FOP endorsed Trump in both 2016 and 2020. “He led our nation through challenging times and provided strong, effective leadership during his first term. As he seeks re-election, we are committed to supporting him in this endeavor,” Yoes concluded.
