During Wednesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell Reports, Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) expressed his support for diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives, stating, "We should continue to encourage" government agencies to prioritize these efforts despite opposition from former President Donald Trump’s executive order.
Host Andrea Mitchell highlighted the broad implications of Trump’s directive, saying, “It seems like everyone in government, and by implication, universities, corporations, and others around the country, could be affected by this decision.”
In response, Durbin argued, “There’s no doubt it’s intended to discourage diversity in leadership within companies and government agencies. I firmly believe diversity is one of America’s greatest strengths. Clearly, the Trump administration disagrees. Nonetheless, we must continue to encourage individuals, agencies, and corporations to do the right thing.”
