Police have identified the remains found in a suitcase as those of a 31-year-old Long Island woman who had been reported missing

Suffolk County police have identified the remains of a woman whose remains were found stuffed inside a suitcase on Long Island.

Seikeya Jones’ body was left behind an apartment building in Huntington, according to Suffolk County police. The gruesome discovery occurred before noon on Tuesday in a wooded area along Nassau Road in Huntington, police said. The medical examiner is still determining how the 31-year-old died.

Friends of Jones gathered at the site where her remains were discovered on Thursday, deepening the mystery surrounding how she ended up there.

“We called her Keya,” said Mary Waldron. “She was a really sweet girl—always smiling and happy.”

Waldron shared that Jones had faced difficulties and ended up on the streets, but her friends had made efforts to stay in touch.

Police confirmed that Jones was homeless and had been reported missing last month. Her friends noted that this was not the first time she had been reported missing.

Residents of the apartment building where Jones was found showed NBC New York a doorbell video that seemed to show her entering the building with an unidentified man last week. Two acquaintances confirmed that it was Jones in the video.

Police have not yet clarified whether the man seen in the footage is linked to their ongoing investigation.
