Report: Kamala Harris to Focus on Attacking Trump Rather Than Addressing ‘Substance’ During Debate

Report: Kamala Harris to Emphasize Attacks on Trump Over Policy Issues in September 10 Debate

Vice President Kamala Harris is reportedly set to focus on attacking former President Donald Trump rather than addressing substantive policy issues during the September 10 ABC News presidential debate.

According to NBC News, Harris’s strategy involves targeting Trump to unsettle him, with a source noting that while her team is preparing to discuss various topics, the primary goal is to influence the debate’s optics. The source indicated that Harris will aim to portray herself as fearless and assertive, holding Trump accountable rather than engaging in detailed policy discussions.

Harris is expected to criticize Trump over the so-called “bipartisan” immigration border bill that failed to pass the Senate. The bill, proposed by Sens. James Lankford (R-OK), Krysten Sinema (I-AZ), and Chris Murphy (D-CT), has been inaccurately blamed by Harris and other Democrats for not passing due to Trump’s opposition. Harris reiterated this claim during her first interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on Thursday, more than a month after becoming the Democratic nominee.

This News reported that Harris’s assertion that Trump derailed the bill by directing Republican members to oppose it is misleading. The bill faced widespread bipartisan opposition due to its failure to include amnesty provisions and its controversial increase in legal immigration and illegal border crossings.

In addition to her focus on attacking Trump, Harris’s campaign is reportedly working on a strategy to distance her from the policies of her and President Joe Biden’s administration. This may involve subtly distancing herself from Biden’s decisions while still supporting the administration’s overall agenda.

The debate between Trump and Harris will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on September 10 at 9:00 p.m. ET.
