Ryan Wesley Routh, the 58-year-old accused of attempting to assassinate former President Trump, was charged in federal court on Monday with being a felon in possession of a firearm, shortly after his arrest in Florida.
According to ABC 11, prosecutors filed two charges against him: possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
News reports indicate that Ryan Wesley Routh fled the scene at Trump’s Palm Beach golf course on Sunday after allegedly being seen pointing a rifle through the fence by Secret Service agents. Law enforcement discovered an AK-style rifle, two backpacks, and a Go-Pro camera in the bushes where Routh had positioned himself before escaping.
As a convicted felon, Routh is subject to strict gun control laws, which prohibit him from purchasing or possessing firearms.
