Los Angeles Chief Recovery Officer Steve Soboroff previously mocked Trump supporters as “all white” in a now-deleted post on Twitter (now X) during the 2016 election, while serving on the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners.
The post was first highlighted by Twitchy, a conservative site that tracks social media, under the headline: “A Los Angeles Police Commissioner had a strange observation of a roomful of Trump supporters.” The site reacted with: “What. The. Hell.”
At the time, The Daily Caller reported that Soboroff’s tweet included a CBS News article by Major Garrett featuring a photo of Trump supporters at an Indiana rally. Soboroff commented: “Every man in the crowd looks like he has the same biological parents.”
When asked about the post, Soboroff defended it as “just an observation,” stating: “I thought it funny that in a country as diverse and exciting as America, almost all the men in crowds were not. They were all white. It’s been shown thousands of times and in polls.”
Mayor Karen Bass later appointed Soboroff to oversee Los Angeles’ rebuilding efforts following the Palisades Fire, which devastated much of Pacific Palisades. According to Census data, the area’s ZIP code (90272) is 81% white.
By contrast, Altadena—affected by the Eaton Fire but outside Soboroff’s jurisdiction—has a more diverse demographic, with white residents making up only 46% of the population, according to Census data.
